I Love NY vs. Gino’s

On Fourth Street between State and Congress, I Love New York and Gino’s duke it out for the title of Best Place to Get a Quick Slice of Pizza. Although they’re fairly evenly matched, I think I have to give the edge to I Love. Both places offer a big slice of cheese pizza for a dollar, but in my opinion I Love’s slice has a better crust and tastier cheese. The big advantage to I Love, though, is that (during the afternoons at least) they keep a cheese pizza on hand fresh out of the oven and can have your slice in front of you five seconds after you order it, whereas Gino’s needs to heat up slices as they’re ordered, adding a two or three minute delay. For instant gratification, I Love has got it hands down. I Love also has slightly more sophisticated pizzas than Gino’s: the spinach deep-dish is absolutely to die for, and the other vegetable pizzas are very respectable as well. Gino’s, though, has some stuffed pizzas, unlike I Love, and it stays open quite a bit later at night than I Love (although I’m not certain whether that’s just during the school year or all the time). It’s a close call, but overall, I think I Love has to take the crown.

Comments on I Love NY vs. Gino’s

I Love NY is much better than Ginos. Yes, Gino’s may have a larger selection, but you are lucky if you get what you ordered. Even more lucky if they decide to deliver. I Love NY in Troy has the best pizza. It is not greasy at all, and has a splendid taste. They are kind and courtious to their customers and your delivery is always there 10 to 15 minutes before they said. Gino’s also has some female working there who is the worse employee ever. If you correct her on the phone, she hangs up on you. There is never any deliveries when she is on. She is down right rude and obnoxious. Unbelievable.

Well, I’ve never been to Gino’s. It looked too dirty to walk into, and I’ve heard excellent reviews of I Love NY so I had to check it out. I was not dissapointed. Hands down the best pizza in Troy. Too bad it’s not as close to RPI as Pizza Bella….

I think I love NY Pizza rocks, especially the one on Central Avenue. I will never dine at the one on Union Street in Schenecatdy again though. It was close to closing but I was told they’d still deliver. The man reluctantly took my order. I never got my pizza. I called up an hour later and was told by the cleaning man that everyone went home. I called the next day and told the manager/owner what happened. He told me the delivery man, and he personally, called several times and since they couldn’t get a hold of me they sent the pizza home with the delivery man. I checked my called ID and there wasn’t one call. I was at a window near the door to watch for them because I had to get to them before they rang the doorbell because my parents-in-law were already sleeping. He just started laughing when I confronted him with the fact the delivery man never came and neither of them called. I complained to the Better Business Bureau. The manager/owner wrote back to them lies saying they offered me a free pizza but I wasn’t interested. Who would decline a free pizza???? That would have been fair but he never offered one to me. I told the owner/manager that if he continued to treat his customers like this he would surely go out of business. The owner/manager threatened to bring me to court if I continued to state my opinions to him or the BBB. I finally told him (the owner/manager isn’t from America), that in America we have freedom of speech and the BBB is there to protect consumers and I have every right to write to them about his business. My family, friends, and I no longer choose to dine at the I Love NY Pizza on Union Street in Schenectady, NY. I have found several other negative reviews about this very establishment online as well. The other I Love NY Pizza establishments in Albany and surrounding areas are owned by different people and they are excellent.

I Love is where it’s at. On Friday and Saturday nights you have to wait in line for a while but that’s only because I Love has something Gino does not: CUSTOMERS. You’d think that with no customers the guys at Ginos would keep their place a little cleaner…

That filthy —— ——— over at Gino’s has no idea what pizza is supposed to taste like. If you want real NY style pizza try I Love’s.

Don’t bother with either place unless you’re just looking for a quick bite. The pizza is at best mediocre. It serves its purpose for the snack on the run or if you’re not really a connisseur, but that’s about it. The only thing close to real quality gourmet pizza I’ve seen thus far in Troy actually belongs to Ali Baba.

Are you kidding? Gino’s has been shut down about ten times by the health department. That’s clean! I Love all the way!

Posted by Rocky (July 3, 2003 02:47 AM)

Gino’s is horrible; I’d prefer I Love over it any day, and that’s that!

Posted by Chuck (June 30, 2003 11:29 AM)

Let’s put it this way, none of my RPI friends have ever even been into Gino’s, so that has to say something. Considering they have the same price, if the pizza was as good, they’d have the line out the door like I Love does.

I think I Love is way better than Gino’s… It tastes especially good when you’re drunk at 4 AM leaving the Eldorado… BEEF PATTIES ARE AMAZING! And the guys are so funny when they hit on me and my friends… I’m gonna have to say that Elda’s Cafe and Pizzeria, which is across the street from I Love and Gino’s, is pretty damn tasty too… their wings are amazing… and they have a really hot delivery guy named Joe.

Gino’s is so dirty and disgusting. The last time I ordered from them was last year. Why? There was money laying on their pizza. My friends and I told the old lady to pick up the 2 dollars that was laying on the pizza and throw the pizza away. We were so disgusted by her response, because B···· said NO. We told her to kiss our a·· and left. No one needs that kind of service. I Love’s is no better, because I found a hair on my slice of pizza. They need to put hair nets on their heads. Order from Domino’s… it’s the best.

I Love is so much better! They have the best BBQ chicken pizza I’ve ever had. Sage girls love I Love’s food and the hot delivery guys!

I Love I love’s!!!!

Gino’s was better back when it was run by PIKES. Now they’re about the same. Its a buck a slice and they’re the same size, so which ever has a shorter line works for me.

Either pizza is good, but I Love is a better buy, and their chicken parm pizza is really damned tasty.

From Gino’s I ordered two dozen barbequed wings and two extra tubs of blue cheese (for a total of four.) I specifically told the person who took the order to have the driver call me for detailed directions before he left - our apartment can be difficult to find! I was assured he would do so. I was told to expect the order in 1/2 hour to 25 minutes. When he had not called a hour later I called them back, and was told the driver said he knew exactly where my apartment is, and left fifteen minutes ago. An hour and a half since ordering I again called back, and was told the driver had returned, unable to find the house. I asked to talk to him, and gave him exact directions. Almost two hours after ordering he delivered the cold wings. Upon opening the order after he left I discovered there was only one tiny tub of blue cheese instead of the four I had ordered. Gino’s customer service is TERRIBLE! Next time I will try I Love NY Pizza and see if they can follow directions and deliver a complete order with hot wings!

I LOVE NY KICKS A··! The best pizza I have tried in the Capital Region! And the price is very, very fair!

I Love’s delivery beats Gino’s anyday. The delivery guys are so adorable! And the pizza’s better too!

Posted by Christine (November 7, 2002 02:32 AM)

Gino’s cheese and sauce taste great. The pizzas are always big, soft, and tasty. The have the only tolerable wings in Troy, and the garlic knots are great for $1.50. I always use Gino’s for pizza in Troy.

Well, I’ve never had Gino’s, but I Love is pretty damn good. However, rather than travel to the bowels of Troy, I prefer the Deli and Brew.

They both suck: Congress St. is better.

Posted by carej (March 27, 2002 08:12 PM)

3 words… I Love rocks!

Posted by Heather (March 13, 2002 12:12 AM)

Gino’s sucks: it’s so dirty, and the people who work there are dirty, plus the pizza sucks too. I Love rules.

Posted by Mike (February 11, 2002 09:47 PM)

I love I Love! It is definitely better than Gino’s! When I went in to Gino’s with my friend (I had I Love pizza in my hand), the guy and I got into an argument about who was better. I think that my comment won: I Love actually has customers! And what’s the deal with the Mexican thing? Who would ever eat that crap?

Posted by Christie (February 6, 2002 09:29 PM)

I Love NY rules. I go there every Sunday with my youth group and the staff (well, the staff we know) are really cool, but some of the guys are creeps. The pizza isn’t as good as it used to be, because some of the guys quit, but they still remember to give me Coke, no ice, and they are really cool guys. Gino’s sucks.

I Love’s pizza b···s monkey n···. I love Gino’s pizza… in fact I just called I Love trying to get Gino’s number [LOL] and those f··· told me they didn’t have time to go get it for me. Gino’s is so good I’m waiting an hour and a half for them to deliver it to me! (It’s Super Bowl Sunday.)

Posted by Shoeby (February 3, 2002 07:54 PM)

I Love Staff sucks, they are mean, rush you and are a··holes when you ask for no ice, and they keep hittin’ on my g/f. Gino’s, what’s the f··kin’ deal with the salt on the pizza. Way too much salt. Go papa John’s or better yet, for some real pizza, take a trip to NYC

Posted by they both suck (December 10, 2001 07:07 PM)

That place sucks. Beyond getting assaulted by their greasy fake mafia italian slacker workers… i got arrested there so i hate them. Their pizza is also not nearly as good as Gino’s where the staff is nice. F··K I LOVE… Go Gino’s!

Posted by FIL (December 10, 2001 07:02 PM)

Gino’s pizza is better because they has seperate slices of Hawaiian pizza. This makes me very happy. I Love NY Pizza does not. Damn them…
